Celeb snapper loses Kidman case - Feb 28 2008
A celebrity photographer has lost his case against an Australian newspaper after he claimed it accused him of harrassing Nicole Kidman.

New South Wales state Supreme Court Justice Carolyn Simpson handed Jamie Fawcett a legal bill, ruling he had frightened the Hollywood star.

Fawcett tried to bug Kidman's house in Sydney and had engaged in a dangerous car chase in his determination to photograph the star, the judge said.

"That Ms Kidman was frightened by Mr Fawcett's conduct cannot be doubted," Simpson said. "The evidence amply demonstrates that Mr Fawcett's conduct was `intrusive' and `threatening'."

Fawcett had sued Fairfax Media, publisher of The Sun-Herald newspaper, for defamation for a January 2005 gossip column item that accused him of being Sydney's most disliked photographer who was determined to "wreak havoc" on Kidman's life.

A jury last year found that elements of the item defamed Fawcett, but Fairfax sought a further hearing to try to prove that the published claims were true. Simpson was asked to rule on that, and alternatively whether Fawcett should be paid damages, and if so how much.

Simpson found the published comments were "substantially true" and ruled out damages.

She ordered Fawcett to pay Fairfax's legal costs, which were not immediately revealed but would likely run to many tens of thousands of dollars.

Fawcett said he would likely appeal Wednesday's ruling.

Pregnant Nicole Kidman has apparently revealed that she wants to make films her children can watch in future.

The 40-year-old actress, who is married to country singer Keith Urban, displayed her bump in a clinging lace dress at the Japanese premiere of her film The Golden Compass.

Nicole, who also has two adopted children with former husband Tom Cruise, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "My Bella and Connor are 13 and 15. So they have seen the film and they loved it. My child inside won’t see the film for a long time.

"But I think once you have children, you want to balance the work you do."

She apparently added: "You want to make films that they can take their friends to, they can go to the premiere of, that they can celebrate."

The Australian star, who is due to give birth this summer, has already spoken of her plans to have more children.

She has said: "I just want to have this child and happily and then we will see. Keith and I would love to have a big family."

Nicole Kidman is pregnant, her publicist has confirmed.

The 40-year-old actress and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, "are expecting a baby", publicist Catherine Olim said in a brief statement. "The couple are thrilled," Ms Olim added.

Nicole is currently at home in Sydney, Australia, where she has been working on Baz Luhrmann’s epic romance, Australia.

Television footage in Australia showed reporters congratulating Nicole and Keith.

Nicole said she was "very excited", but declined to say when the baby was due. Asked whether the baby was a boy or a girl, Keith said its sex was a secret, before the pair got into a car and drove off.

Nicole was due to start filming for director Stephen Daldry’s post-war drama The Reader later this month, but her Australian publicist Wendy Day said she understood she had to withdraw from the film because of the pregnancy.

Speculation has been increasing in recent weeks over Nicole’s maternal condition. Dozens of paparazzi have been tracking her, focusing on her "baby bump".
