Hugh: I’ve finally settled down - Jan 24 2007
Hugh Grant has admitted that he has finally "settled down".

The Notting Hill star, who has been dating socialite Jemima Khan for three years, has a reputation for being reluctant to commit.

But today the 46-year-old said it was "very nice" to finally find his soulmate.

In his new film Music And Lyrics, the actor, whose old flame Liz Hurley is marry boyfriend Arun Nayar this year, plays a washed-up rock star who eventually finds love in his middle age.

Hugh admitted: "It’s true that I have taken a long time to settle down. My life is very nice now".

The actor, who recently returned as cad Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, said: "I quite like playing a playboy or lothario, but that’s not the aspect of any of those parts that attracted me particularly.

"I remember doing Bridget Jones and finding it strange that women are drawn to a character that is that much of a b******. But women are very inexplicable."

Despite his blooming love life, Hugh confessed that he was miserable, saying: "I don’t know what’s wrong with me, literally everything annoys me.

"If I’m writing a text message and I have to wait because there are three letters on the same button, I’m almost in despair with rage.

"If there’s a very nice elderly person in the queue at the post office I want to throw them to the floor and that can’t be healthy."

Hugh best man at Liz’s wedding - Aug 2, 2006
Hugh Grant has been asked to be best man at former lover Liz Hurley’s wedding to Arun Naya. The ’Notting Hill’ actor has remained friends with his ex - despite being caught with prostitute Divine Brown during their 13 year relationship - and the couple want him to be part of their big day.

However, Hugh’s current girlfriend Jemima Khan is not happy with Liz’s request and has ordered him to turn down the offer. An insider is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "Jemima and Hugh are besotted with each other. And she is comfortable with his bizarre friendship with Liz, because she knows that Arun and Liz wouldn’t get married unless they were madly in love. "But she is sick of the constant speculation about Hugh and Liz’s friendship, and obviously there will be a media frenzy if Hugh agrees to be Liz’s best man. "Best men have to make irreverent jokes about the bride and groom’s past romances. So he would have to make some reference to his relationship with Liz."

Earlier this week, Liz confirmed she is marrying Arun and also revealed the pair intend to try for a baby. The ’Bedazzled’ actress - who has been dating the Indian millionaire since 2003 - said: "I cannot reveal the exact date but it is very close. We are even thinking of having a child."

Biography

Hugh Grant was born on September 9, 1960. His father James was a carpet salesman, mother Fynvola was a teacher. Hugh was educated in New College, Oxford University where he majored in literature. Although he was first noticed in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hugh’s movie career took off when he starred in Merchant-Ivory’s Maurice, for which he won the Venice Film Festival’s Best Actor prize.

In 1995, Hugh became the scandal of the year by hiring a prostitute, Divine Brown, to perform certain acts in the privacy of his automobile. His girlfriend, Liz Hurley was not amused and although she stuck by him through the scandal they finally called it quits in 2000 after 13 years together. The Divine Brown incident could well have been the making of Hugh Grant though, after this mishap he was cast in many more films and became a British icon here and in the States.

Although many of his films at this time were dubious to say the least, their ratings were bouyed by his popularity and in 1999 he made a real comeback. Notting Hill was a return to form for Grant, made by the same team that first shot to fame with Four Weddings...it confirmed his status and saw his star on the rise again. Following up his success with About A boy and Bridget Jone’s Diary which saw him departing from his usual role as bumbling English fool and made him a whole new type of heartthrob.

He has also starred in Love Actually as the Prime Minister, which saw much speculation as to whether Brits would actually prefer Grant as the leader of their country. Hugh remains a bachelor, despite rumours of a fling with co-star Sandra Bullock, and remains very close friends with Liz Hurley with whom he owns Simian Productions.
