Moyles closes gap on Wogan - Jan 31 2008
Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles has narrowed the ratings gap with Radio 2 rival Terry Wogan in the battle of the breakfast shows.

Terry remains the nation's favourite with 7.73 million listeners, but Chris is now just 420,000 listeners behind with 7.31 million - his biggest audience yet.

The Radio 1 star posted the record figures after extending his show by an extra half hour.

The Chris Moyles Show now runs from 6.30am-10am, while Wake Up To Wogan is only two hours long, running from 7.30am-9.30am.

The ratings, issued by industry body Rajar, cover the period September-December 2007.

Moyles added 330,000 listeners on the previous quarter. Radio 1 had a total of audience 10.69 million, up from 10.58 million the previous quarter 10.26 million the previous year.

The station overhauled its schedules in October, bringing in Kelly Osbourne as host of its Sunday night agony aunt show, and pairing Fearne Cotton with Reggie Yates to co-present the Chart Show rundown.

It also featured the Radio 1 Legends series, which saw the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys to take over the airwaves and play their favourite records.

Radio 2 had an audience of 12.82 million, Radio 3 had 1.95 million and Radio 4's listenership was 9.29 million.

Five Live and digital service Five Live Sports Extra had a combined audience of 6.17 million, up more than half a million on the previous quarter, while the BBC's digital stations 6 Music and BBC7 also posted record figures.

Chris to bring in Page Three girls? - Jan 9 2008
It seems Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles is set to unleash Page Three models into the Celebrity Hijack house.

The presenter, who is set to hijack the show on Sunday, reportedly told his listeners: "We can say: ’This is Big Brother. The Page Three parade is about to start in 15 minutes.’ And then we just get Page Three girls walking about in a circle in the garden for about five minutes."

According to the Daily Star, Chris is also considering setting off fake bombs to convince the housemates that London has become a warzone, and pump fake snow into the garden.

The newspaper claims Chris also wants to order the contestants to spend a day naked.

Chris apparently said: "I’m hijacking the show on Sunday and you’ll be able to see what I’ve done on the Monday night highlights show. I really like the ’Voice of God’ stuff, commanding people."

A Big Brother insider told the paper; "He obviously knows what makes killer TV. But we’re not sure whether the bosses will let him go through with it in case it’s a bit too close to the edge."

Moyles and Wogan lose listeners - Oct 25 2007

BBC breakfast rivals Chris Moyles and Terry Wogan have shed more than half a million radio listeners between them in the past three months, new figures reveal.

Chris, the self-styled "saviour of Radio 1", has 6.98 million listeners.

That is down 280,000 from the 7.26 million at the end of the previous quarter (April to June).

Terry presents the country’s most popular breakfast show with 7.68 million listeners, but he is down 240,000 from the previous quarter.

Both DJs are attracting more listeners than they were at the same point last year - Moyles by 170,000 and Wogan by 30,000.

The dip is reflected nationally across radio listening as a whole.

The number of adults tuning into the radio each week is down 760,000 quarter-on-quarter to 44.9 million, according to figures from Rajar (Radio Joint Audience Research).

Biography

Born in Leeds on February 22 1974 Chris Moyles is Radio One’s Long time Breakfast Show Presenter.  However, Chris didn’t always beam his show in to quite so many homes - he bagan his career with stints on Radio Aire, The Pulse of West Yorkshire, Chiltern Radio, Horizon Radio, Signal 1 and Radio Luxembourg (under the name Chris Holmes) before bagging a slot on Capital FM and then finally being nabbed by the Beeb in 1998.

Within months of his employment he was awarded Sony’s DJ of the Year award and by the end of the year he had bagged the prestigious drivetime slot which saw him become one of the country’s favourite DJs.  After five years he was finally given the most sought after Radio One job - the presenter of the Breakfast Show, swapping places with Sara Cox.  Moyles, along with sidekicks such as Comedy Dave and Aled Haydn-Jones, managed to quickly push the audience up to over 6.5million.

Moyles has been regularly lambasted for his lack of political correctness and has come under fire for racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia after comments made on air.  He also hit the headlines over pay controversies - crossing the picket line during BBC strikes to present his show and pick up a £630,000 paycheque.
