Alex Curran has apparently started training on army assault courses, in an attempt to beef up following her recent burglary ordeal.

The 25-year-old wife of footballer Steven Gerrard is said to be taking self-defence lessons at the Krypton Factor assault course in Holcombe Moor in Bury, Lancs, after the raid on her £4.5 million home.

A source told the Daily Star: "Most of the assault course from the TV show is still there. So Alex is taking regular trips to tackle the 20 obstacles... This will help her escape from future intruders and it will also beef her up so that she can take the robbers on if necessary."

The gruelling course is said to include vertical and flat cargo nets, rope swings, water jumps, Burma rope bridges and a rope slide into water.

Alex Curran has apparently spoken of her terror after being confronted by masked raiders at her mansion.

The Wag was confronted by four thieves wearing balaclavas or hoods as her husband Steven Gerrard led Liverpool to victory in Marseille.

Alex told the Daily Mirror her greatest fear was for her daughters Lilly-Ella, three, and one-year-old Lexie, who were upstairs in bed at the time.

"It was absolutely terrifying, a horrendous experience," she told the newspaper.

"I’m still feeling really shaken up and too traumatised about the whole thing to talk about it much.

"We’ve already got a lot of security at the house, but we’ll definitely step it up after this."

Merseyside Police said Alex, 25, and another woman who was with her in the house, were shaken but unharmed.

The thieves escaped with a woman’s Rolex watch and two sets of car keys after breaking into the house in the village of Freshfield, near Formby in Merseyside, at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Liverpool FC is to step up security at its players’ houses after Steven became the club’s latest team member to be targeted by robbers during a football game.

Police said the robbery was being linked to earlier break-ins at the homes of Dirk Kuyt and Pepe Reina.
