Alesha launches charity race - Jan 10 2008
Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon has launched a 10k run in aid of a London children’s charity.
Along with Johnny Vaughan, the Capital radio breakfast show host, the singer launched the Bupa Great Capital Run 2008 in Leicester Square.
The 10k race is in aid of Help a London Child.
Alesha, who will be taking part in the run, said: "It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced runner or a complete novice, you can skip, jump or walk your way around the route if you like. You can be sure to have a great time while raising money for a very worthy cause."
She recently lost more than a stone after intensive training on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing show.
Alesha said on Capital Radio: "I’m definitely taking part - please come and join in.
"We’ll be keeping fit, it’ll be nice and sunny and it’s for an amazing cause."
The charity run will be held in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday July 20 and is expected to attract more than 11,000 runners. There will also be a Junior Great Capital Run for children of all abilities aged between eight and 14 years old.
Organisers say they hope to raise £25,000 from entrance fees for Help a London Child. The charity provides support for children suffering from the effects of poverty, abuse, homelessness, illness and disability.
Nova International, organisers of running and fitness events, will stage the 10k event which costs £23 for the first 2,000 runners and £25 thereafter.
