"He voluntarily attended and was interviewed in connection with an alleged assault on October 15. A file is now being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service."

The appointment for the footballer to attend was made after complaints from the photographer who claims he was attacked outside the club at around 5am.

He did not need medical treatment after the alleged assault, police said at the time.

The United squad trained as usual at Carrington this morning and Wayne later spoke to police at an unidentified police station.

Who’s Who? Wayne’s who - Nov 7 2006
It seems footballer Wayne Rooney is to receive a place in a top people listings guide.

The Manchester United star has apparently been asked to submit personal details for the 2007 edition of Who’s Who.

Wayne, 21, would be the one of the youngest celebrities to feature in the biographical dictionary.

"Wayne got a formal letter inviting him to submit an entry a few weeks ago," a family friend told The Sun.

"He was delighted. It’s an achievement at his age - the boy’s done good."

The sporting star will now have to write a short autobiography and a list of his favourite hobbies.

Who’s Who is an annual publication listing about 30,000 notable Britons, which has been published since 1849.

Footballers do not usually feature in the esteemed tome until the end of their careers or until they have been awarded an OBE or MBE.

David Beckham and Alan Shearer - both OBEs - currently feature in the guide, along with most of the 1966 World Cup squad.

Happy Birthday to Roo - Oct 24 2006
England footy wonderkid Wayne Rooney is 21 today - and it seems his fiancee Coleen McLoughlin is spoiling him rotten.

Last week, the 20-year-old trendsetter was spotted laden down with bags after visiting Manchester Selfridges, telling nearby photographers: "These are for Wayne’s birthday. Please don’t run the pictures beforehand or it will ruin the surprise."

Coleen told friends she was buying him a £30,000 diamond-encrusted watch from Jacobs & Co, a £15,000 golf simulator and some Louis Vuitton luggage, says The Sun.

There were also rumours that the Asda model was planning to buy him a guitar, signed by a top musician.

"Coleen has come up with loads of presents over the last six months, including a gold simulator and a watch," said an insider.

"There was mention of a signed guitar, but nobody knows for sure what her final choices were. She didn’t want to let the cat out of the bag before the birthday."

The duo are planning a quiet celebration this evening, for just a handful of family and friends.

Wayne in England fan dust-up - Oct 13 2006
Wayne Rooney was involved in a dust-up with an England fan following his team’s 2-0 defeat by Croatia, his spokesman confirmed today.

Striker Wayne was among a group of players heading to the team bus from the stadium in Zagreb when he was singled out for a barrage of personal abuse from an England supporter.  The Manchester United star was alleged to have responded to the jeers.

A spokesman for Rooney said: "Any gesture Wayne may have made was directed to one, and only one, particular England fan, whose behaviour towards him appalled the other England players who saw it and horrified the rest of the England fans.

"Wayne has total respect for England fans. He accepts and understands their disappointment at last night’s result."

Biography

Born on October 24 1985, Wayne Rooney made his footballing debut at just sixteen for his childhood club, Everton.  He immediately made an impact with football fans all over the world and scooped the Sports Young Personality of the Year Award just a few months later.

During a well remembered game for Everton he sported a tshirt bearing the slogan ’once a blue, always a blue’.  Just a short time later he demanded a transfer and was sold to Manchester United, where he remains.  He has also made several appearances for the English national side however, his success was marred by his 2006 World Cup sending off alongside the broken foot which almost saw him miss out on the tournament.

Footballing talent aside Wayne is probably better known as Mr Colleen McLoughlin these days.  He is engaged to his childhood sweetheart who has stuck by him through tabloid accusations of visits to prostitutes and gambling problems.  He has also won libel damages from The Sun and News of the World after they claimed he had assaulted Colleen in a nightclub.

Rooney has recently signed the biggest sports publishing deal ever and will let us in on his secrets over the course of his career through the medium of ghost writer.  However, even before his first book hits the shelves he has stumbled on controversy - Everton manager David Moyes is to sue his former wonderboy over claims surrounding his exit from the football club.  It seems that wherever this Croxteth lad goes trouble is sure to follow...
