Serious role for Sacha? - Jan 2 2008
Sacha Baron Cohen is rumoured to be setting comedy aside to star in Steven Spielberg's new drama.

The funnyman - who found fame with his comic creations Ali G and Borat - is to appear in political flick The Trial Of The Chicago Seven, reports The Times.

He is apparently set to play the lead character Abbie Hoffman, a famed 1960s counterculture protester who played pranks to campaign against the Vietnam War.

So far there's no word on who else might star in the film, which is not expected to hit cinema screens until 2010.

It wouldn't be Sacha's first silver screen experience. As well as his Borat film, he voiced a character in 2005 film Madagascar and popped up in Will Ferrell's film Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby in 2006.

He can next be seen alongside A-listers like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in musical movie Sweeney Todd, playing barber Signor Adolpho Pirelli.

Sacha’s sad goodbye to Borat - Dec 21 2007

Ali G and Borat are responsible for making Sacha Baron Cohen one of the most successful comics on the planet, so it’s no surprise he has apparently admitted he’ll be sad to say goodbye to them.

The 36-year-old actor, who had a box office smash with his controversial Borat film last year, told The Daily Telegraph: "When I was playing Ali G and Borat I was in character sometimes 14 hours a day, and came to love them.

"So admitting I am never going to play them again is quite a sad thing. It is like saying goodbye to a loved one. It is hard and the problem with success, although it’s fantastic, is that every new person who sees the Borat movie is one less person I ’get’ with Borat again. So it’s a kind of self-defeating form."

And Sacha, who often does interviews in character, apparently admitted he finds it easier and more fun than being himself.

"If I’d done the entire promotional campaign as myself it wouldn’t have developed in the same way. I think it can be a little bit tiresome if you’re having to be the real person and talking about how interesting and important the role was.

"To me it should be entertaining and the entertainment should carry on."

Sacha, who has just become a parent with actress fiancee Isla Fisher, is back on the big screen in January as a rival barber in Sweeney Todd.

Baby Borat ’is Olive’ - Oct 26 2007

Baby Borat has been named - Sacha Baron Cohen and fiancee Isla Fisher have reportedly named their daughter Olive.

The couple welcomed the new addition to their family last week, and sources tell OK! that they have given that name to their baby girl.

Olive made her worldwide debut last Wednesday, October 17, in Los Angeles, but the 36-year-old British comedian and 31-year-old Wedding Crashers star didn’t confirm the happy news until Tuesday October 23.

"They had a beautiful and healthy baby girl. Mother and daughter are doing great," said the couple’s spokesperson.

Sacha and Isla started dating in 2002, and he proposed two years later. They have postponed their nuptials several times, and have yet to set a date for their wedding.

The couple, particularly the Ali G comic, are notoriously private about their relationship, but it had been previously rumoured that they would tie the knot in a traditional Jewish ceremony.

Baby Borat? - Oct 22 2007

Isla Fisher and her fiance Sacha Baron Cohen have welcomed their first child- a baby girl, according to reports from the actress’s native Australia.

E!Online and People.com report that the actress gave birth on Wednesday night, although spokespeople for both stars had no comment on the news.

Biography

With a Welsh father, a Jewish mother and a Christ’s College, Cambridge education, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G character kept the pundits guessing. Now living in Belsize Park, Sacha went to peculiarly-named public (that’s private if you’re a Yank) school Haberdashers’ Aske’s.

At Cambridge, he got a History degree and did his thesis on Black and Jewish cultures. Fascinating. Best known for his Ali G character, aficionados think that his Kazakhstani TV presenter character Borat Karabzhanov is much funnier. Apart from that we’re all waiting to see what he’ll do next.
