Kirsty and Ian to present Gladiators - Mar 12 2008
Kirsty Gallacher and Ian Wright have signed up to present the return of Gladiators.
Sky One is bringing back the popular show, which was a hit for ITV during the 90s, in May.
Original referee John Anderson is also returning to the show, in which contestants compete for a £50,000 prize.
Filmed at Shepperton studios, Gladiators is expected to be broadcast in its traditional Saturday prime-time slot following a "21st Century makeover".
Ex-footballer Ian, 44, said: "Gladiators is a great show and I am thrilled to be involved.
"Since people first heard it was coming back the response has been phenomenal and I am so excited that a new generation get to experience it."
Kirsty, 32, added: "I grew up with Gladiators so I couldn't be more excited to be involved in the new series.
"It promises to be great entertainment on a major scale and I can't wait to get started."
Ian Wright takes over BB house - Jan 5 2008
Former footballer Ian Wright has taken over as Big Brother - and set the housemates some tricky tasks.
On the third day of Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack, the housemates were divided into pairs.
For the first part of the task, one housemate has to wear specially adapted ear defenders. They play "white noise" continually while they have them on.
Wright then plays the other housemate a series of sound effects. After each is played, the housemate has to act out the sound effect and see if their fellow housemate can correctly guess what it is.
If they succeed they win a luxury food and toiletries budget for the next day.
For the second part of the task, housemates must score a penalty kick in the football pitch set in the garden. However, they must take the penalty wearing specially created goggles that alter the wearer’s vision to a tiny pinprick.
Former Arsenal legend Wright said: "I am a big fan of Big Brother, and I never thought there would be an opportunity to be Big Brother. I’m not one of those who acts too cool to watch Big Brother. I do like it, it’s one of those things. I just love it.
"I am most looking forward to being the voice of Big Brother. Kinda having control, although I am not a control freak but I do like the fact that I’ve got control, when I speak they have to do stuff!"
The show’s first celebrity hijacker, Matt Lucas of TV show Little Britain, who ran the house for two days, said: "I think this group are a lot warmer and more likeable than the usual housemates. It might be because they are younger and because most of them genuinely do seem to have a talent."
Russell Brand will hijack the Big Brother house on Tuesday. Highlights will be shown on E4 on Wednesday at 9pm.
Wright fights fat - Sept 1, 2006
Arsenal legend Ian Wright will put a group of seriously overweight teenagers through a gruelling fat camp in a bid to beat the bulge in a new show for Channel 4. The 42-year-old will host Ian Wright’s Supersize Kids, which will see him attempt to improve the health of eight 13-year-old north London children.
"Ian embarks on his campaign by selecting eight of north London’s unhealthiest kids from a school sports day which he plans to repeat after six months training," a Channel 4 spokesman said. "The kids are a motley crew. These are the kids that are picked last for team sports. The ones who mysteriously forget their PE kit every week."

Keeping up with the WAGs...

Wrighty played for Palace for six years, becoming probably their most legendary player. In 1991 he moved to Arsenal for, at the time, a record fee of £2.5million. It was here that he really made his name, becoming the club’s top scorer for six seasons. His time with Arsenal was not always smooth, in particular Wright clashed with manager Bruce Rioch, but he nonetheless played for the club until 1998 when he moved to West Ham United.
By this time though Wright was showing his age and went on to move down the ranks with short spells with Nottingham Forest, Celtic and Burnley. He retired in 2000 having also made it in to the national side on several ocassions.
Since 2000 the one time footballing wonder has made a living as a pundit on Match of the Day and all round media personality with his own shows Friday Night’s All Wright and Wright Around the World as well as appearing on They Think It’s All Over.
Two of Wright’s five children, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Bradley Wright-Phillips are professional footballers while a third, Brett Wright is an up and coming player for Reading FC.
