Fearne and Hoosiers in charity fast - Feb 28 2008
Fearne Cotton and Samantha Mumba are among a host of stars who will go without food for World Vision's 24 Hour Famine campaign.
The Radio 1 DJ and the Dancing On Ice contender will be joined by indie group The Hoosiers, Sandi Thom, Andy Scott-Lee and The Bad Robots as they fast for a whole day over the weekend of March 14 to 16.
Appeal ambassador Fearne urged others to join the sponsored fast to raise money for street children in India: "Go without something important for just one day so that we can help get kids in Chennai off the streets and instead give them the opportunity of a better, safer life and future."
The Hoosiers have also promised to give up something they love to support the cause.
Frontman Irwin Sparkes joked: "Make-up for Martin, KFC for Alfonso and hot pants for Irwin. It's about time we did something for somebody else."
The World Vision 24 Hour Famine has, over the past 22 years, raised over £20 million for children and young people in the developing world.
This year funds raised from the campaign will make a life-changing difference to 2000 street children in Chennai, India, who go without basic needs such as clean, safe water, shelter or regular nutritious meals.
To get involved in the 24 Hour Famine log onto www.24hourfamine.org.uk or text FAMINE to 81222. Alternatively you can call 01908 84 12 12.
TV presenter Cotton turns teetotal - Jan 2 2008
TV presenter Fearne Cotton has turned teetotal.
And it’s not just a New Year’s resolution - the 26-year-old gave up alcohol three months ago and says she has never felt better.
"I wasn’t a big drinker before so I found it quite easy to give up completely - and now I feel bloody brilliant," she revealed to Company magazine.
And she would love to give troubled star Britney Spears some help cleaning up her act.
"I feel sorry for her - the old trout lips and no hair!" Cotton said.
"I do want her to get better. She could come and live with me and be sober forever. She needs Mama Cotton to look after her."
Cotton previously dated Fame Academy contestant Peter Brame, who admitted smoking crack.
She said: "That was a weird time. I met someone I really liked, who was into something I wasn’t. That’s why it didn’t work out between us. It’s not like I was never naughty - I’d go to gigs and get three hours’ sleep - but then I’d panic as I had to go to work the next day."
While she has given up the alcohol, she won’t be changing what she eats.
"I’ve seen pop stars on really strict diets and you can’t help but wonder how they do it. I find it so sad. I’d rather be happy and have a little pot belly than be skinny and miserable," she said. Cotton, who recently finished hosting ITV2’s Xtra Factor, is loved up with American boyfriend Jesse Jenkins.
Fearne has found ’the One’ - Nov 27 2007
Fearne Cotton has apparently described her boyfriend Jesse Jenkins as "the One".
The 26-year-old - who is currently hosting the Xtra Factor - said they met in America and now Jesse, 21, splits his time between here and the States.
"We see each other every day," Fearne told New! magazine. "He lives with me when he’s over here. It’s perfect.
"Yes, he’s ’the One’! We’re best mates, we have a great giggle together and he’s a top bloke. I’ve had some wrong ’uns in the past but I picked a good one in the end."

Fearne has since presented Top of the Pops: Reloaded and Top of the Pops itself as well as making her way on to the grown up TV scene with a job on ITV’s Love Island. She also presents the weekend breakfast show on Radio One. Undoubtedly one of Fearne’s career highlights was presnting Live8 in 2005, where she was chatted up by Robbie Williams live on camera.
However Fearne prefers a more rockstar sort of man and previously dated Lostprophets front man Ian Watkins and Fame Academy contestant Peter Brame.
