What's it about? When a festival gives straight back to its local area, it’s got to be celebrated. In the true spirit of what a village festival was originally about, the Workhouse Festival has developed to raise money to go straight back into the community via the eclectic arts centre The Workhouse in Llanyfyllin, Powys. That means that every penny of profit is put back to the denizens of this town and that’s right good with us
But forget anything fete-ish, this is a real festival with camping, good music, dance tents and even a few extras, like a cabaret tent, thrown in. In a very homegrown fashion, all electricity used in the event is wind harvested and there’s an overwhelming feeling that this has been put together with the town at heart.
This year you can catch LX and Dom from The Orb (remember them, little fluffy clouds anyone?), dub-reinventors Dreadzone, ska from Babyhead and more. Look out as well for Sancho Panza (of Notting Hill Carnival fame) and legendary funk-obscurity-finders Fidget DJing in the Electronic Boutique
A huge lineup for the event (see website below for full listings) and while not all the biggest names in music right now, each has been lovingly selected from some of the foremost up and coming talent in the country
Show your support and get down there…
Book now if you love: homegrown, hand-picked festivals
Don’t miss: the fancy dress day on the Saturday. Decadence encouraged

"Dilys The Sheep had a lovely time at The Workhouse Festival 2008, even in the mud. Everyone was friendly, helpful and great. A brilliant opportunity to meet people from around the world. We loved the availability of different foods, the Pimms in the Caberet tent, toast in Weirdigans Organic cafe, the special Chickpea curry & Veggi hotdogs in Nomad's travelling cafe. Spoilt for choice with the different dance floors enabling us to be foot loose and fancy free. Meeting all the fancy dressers from the eldery grans with the zimos & catheter bag, BA Baracus, Moss head hat & Pineapple helmet, Pirates, Monks, Popes, slightly off the wall newly wedded bride & groom, fairies & so many others, what a great oppertunity this was, truly colourful. The stewards were so helpful, and considerate, a big thank you to Simon from Ireland, and Azzi, & Dave from Penmaenmawr .L4ooking forward to catching up with you at Shambala festival in August (see you there)
The Green Crafts Field was chilled out, with hand baked bread fresh and tasty, the musical instruments carved from wood, played beautiful tones, with everyone having a bash, so much to see everyone had made a fantastic effort.
The cinema was also ace, with films running through the whole weekend, and the stand up comedian for the grand finale.
Dilys the Sheep will be there again next year, & cant wait to see you all there.
And would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for inviting us to your special venue the WORKHOUSE FESTIVAL 2008"
