What’s it about? If you’re concerned about your carbon footprint, then share a lift to the Ragged Hedge Fair in Cirencester. Set in Abbey Home Farm, the fair bills itself as a wind and sun powered event, which means the fairground is ‘off grid’ and the air is distinctly free from the normal generator buzz.
Alongside workshops on wind and solar power, anything that can be recycled is recycled. Last year they collected over 290 kg of mixed glass, 110 kg of cans and 2 bales of cardboard. For food waste, there is a compost heap, plus a free cloth nappy service. Well, what do you expect on an organic farm?
Expect an eclectic mix of music with interesting interpretations. RSVP does danceadelic bhangra, Kinch are Indie pop funksters, Tapan Roy and Donagh Santey do tabla sitar recital, whilst The Wind Whistles are a bog standard Canadian Indie folk duo.
Keeping in step with the rest of the fair, there is a yurt to be rented out for £100 per night, though novelty obviously pays and it has now been booked out. However, if you’re after a bit of pampering, get yourself down to the Healing Village where there’s an army of therapists on hand.
Book now if you love: Eco-centric partying...
Don’t Miss: Satish Kumar, an activist who has been a Jain monk and a nuclear disarmament advocate, and is the current editor of Resurgence.
What to go? Weekend camping tickets are £35 advance, £40 on the door, with children accompanied by adults go half price. Day tickets (Sat and Sun only) are £11, £13 on the door. Campervans are £10.
